MARIA DA PENHA OF BRAZIL

Maria Da Penha is a female Brazilian activist of African descent who fought for the law against domestic violence till it was put in place by President Rouseff in August 2006.

Maria Da Penha is also a biopharmacist. She fights for the rights of women and for increased punishment against perpetrators of domestic violence.

Her advocacy contributed to the availability of shelters for domestic violence victims and police stations for the same purpose.
